Urban Milwaukee post for YP Week, in particular “The Hangout” event at City Hall.
April 15th, 2013
Each day of Young Professionals week had a theme, on this day the theme was sustainability, both environmental and economic. The discussion of race in Milwaukee emerged in what I thought was an interesting perspective. Ever since I have moved to Milwaukee, people always tell me about the city’s segregated neighborhoods and communities. This is a flaw that should be flipped upside down to be spoken about as a strength of the uniqueness of the region. Different neighborhoods have different qualities and features that together make this city what it is today.
The Urban Milwaukee article puts it perfectly, “To become a sustainable city, we must start by bridging our divisions and building on our diversity.”
